Despite My Best Intentions

Someone didn't want me to work out today.*  One of my new years resolutions this year was "Get Off My Butt", and I have to say, I've been doing pretty good with getting off my butt. Depending on the day, I can sometimes take a bodypump class (my favorite), on my way home from work. Even though I woke up tired and feeling like I was fighting a cold, I threw my stuff in my gym bag planning to work out after work today.  Because those "experts" always say, "don't let a little cold get in the way of your workout", right? Right.

4:50: Leave work (late).

5:05: Arrive at gym, sit in car for a few minutes to catch up on Facebook and Instagram.

5:15: Shit. It's been ten minutes. Damn you Instagram. Head into gym.

5:20: Start changing into workout clothes, realize I forgot my workout undies. Let's be honest here, I have "special" underwear that I like to workout in. Decide that I will suck it up and wear underwear that I have on.

5:23: Start to put my stuff into a locker and realize my gym lock is in my other gym bag. Because why have one gym bag when you can have two?

5:24: Panic because I can't possibly leave my bag and purse in an unlocked locker and I can't possibly bring all my shit into the always-packed 5:30 bodypump class.

5:25: Decide to run all my stuff out to my car. Even though I look like a fool in my workout gear and black boots.

5:26: Throw stuff into my car, which, I should add, is conveniently parked as far away from the main doors as possible because, hello!, this is the busiest time of day at the gym.

5:29: Sprint back into the gym, take off my boots and realize I also threw my gym shoes into my car. For F sakes.

5:30: Sit down on the front bench and hang my head in defeat. I can see the class has now started, I still need to fill up my water bottle and I still need to go pee.

5:31: Leave the gym trying to look all nonchalant as if I just finished up a workout. Shoulda just gone straight home from work to read Harry Potter.

*By today I mean yesterday, since that's when I wrote it. But I got distracted watching the 3-hour Bachelor Finale and forgot to post this.

  1. Oh no! It sounds like it just wasn't your day! Sounds like you're doing really great overall with tackling that resolution! Don't beat yourself up about it because today's a brand new day! However, I totally have these days WAY MORE FREQUENTLY and wish I could be as motivated as you are! Keep it up :)

    1. Aw thanks, Beth! It definitely was NOT my day! It was frustrating to say the least, and I couldn't help thinking about how much time I wasted just to NOT work out lol!

  2. hahahaha I laughed so hard through this, your life sounds like mine! Except that I would never actually work out, who does that? I'm happy to see that you are working hard to stick to your resolution though, that's awesome!

  3. Oh man, two weeks ago, I got all the way to the gym, actually got a damn locker, and realized I forgot my lock. I walked so I couldn't put my stuff in the car and the gym has stuffed all the machines so close to each other I can't leave my life on the floor.

So I left and I cried. :-/ WHY IS IT SUCH A HASSLE?

Here's hoping we can both get our shit together in the future.

    1. Omg Estelle - we are not alone! haha. You're story made me laugh and happy that someone can relate ;) One time I walked to the gym in the winter and had big wooly socks on in my boots, only to get to the gym and realize I had forgotten gym socks! I'm pretty sure I cried then!

Cheers to getting our shit together! :)

    1. This was almost as bad as the time I walked to the gym in Montreal (in -25C weather) and only had my big wooly socks with me! I wanted to cry that time!

  8. Some days it's just so damned difficult to get in that workout and let me tell you I have a "window" in the evening where I'm in the right mood and mindset (not yet too tired) to workout. If that passes there is no going back. The other night hubby wants to go over our tax return during my "window". AARRGGGHHH!!! Can I tell you that I'd RATHER visit the gynecologist AND the dentist than think/talk about taxes? I told him he should have "warned" me earlier in the day that he wanted to discuss that evening and not spring it on me. If he didn't already know, he knows now that I am a crazy, hysterical woman most definitely from another planet. Long story short, I managed to suck it up and workout in spite of suprise tax attack.

    1. Haha! Oh Lori, this made me laugh out loud! I totally agree with the "window" - that's why I like to go on my way home from work, as opposed to going home, then back out to the gym. I'm glad you were able to overcome your "tax surprise" and still get in your workout :) As for "crazy, hysterical woman" - my hubby already knows I am one LOL! ;)
