Saigon Sundays: I Love You, Couch

When we lived in BC, we had my old brown couch upstairs in the computer room. At some point, Saigon started sleeping on this couch at night. He would put himself to bed on it, but most early mornings, he would sneak into our room. When we moved back to Alberta last year, this couch ended up in storage for a few months and then in our garage for several months more. When Jim and I couldn't find a new couch to buy that we loved, we decided to clean the couch with a rug shampooer, get a slipcover for it and put it in our family room until we found the couch we really wanted.

Well. After Jim spent 2-3 hours cleaning the couch, we brought it inside and if Saigon could "jump for joy", he would have. The cushions were still a little damp and I didn't want him on the newly cleaned couch until I had gotten a slipcover for it, so we propped the cushions up against the couch so they could finish drying over night. Saigon is usually pretty scared of anything "in his path", so I assumed this would be deterrent enough for him. I was wrong. My back was only turned for mere minutes. Never underestimate the love a dog has for his couch.

Even after being "caught", he hunkered down and stuck his ground:

The couch is brown and Saigon is more grey, but in pictures, he blends right in!

There's no way that was comfortable, so I let him have his "moment" before making him come upstairs with us. Also, HELLO! - CLEAN COUCH!

Don't worry, the next day I picked up a slipcover and Saigon got his ol' couch back. He honestly seems more at peace, more content, now that "his" couch is back. God love him.

  3. Aww .... love it! We have some dog blankets we put on the couch so the dogs can lay on it, but whenever I wash them, it's like the dogs KNOW their comfy blankets aren't on the couch, so they don't even try to go up. We do have the one dog bed downstairs and they ALL lay in it sometimes, and it's usually a fight at night for Cooper's bed upstairs between him and Grace to see who gets the bed first. :)

    They're so funny!

    1. Aww, I'd love to get Saigon a furry friend so he had someone to fight over his bed with too! :) I always feel bad leaving him downstairs all alone on the couch, but he knows he can upstairs...he just chooses not to anymore. :(

  4. Awwwww I am not a pet person at all (in case you didn't already know ;)) but this is absolutely adorable and I have to say, you better not replace that couch. Or maybe let him keep a cushion? Though it doesn't look like the love is about the cushions LOL

    1. What, YOU, not a pet person?! LOL. Don't worry, I won't make you meet Saigon when you come to my house :) Haha, we'll probably always keep the couch for him - we'll just put it upstairs once we get a new one.

  5. YAY! Saigon Sundays make my week! I love seeing his sweet face with your hilarious commentary. Haha i rememeber in Chilliwack how he would always sleep in that spare room on that couch! And when i would come visit and sleep there, i would have to try and squeeze in there and stay STILL with him or he would get upset and leave lol. If you get a new couch, your gonna have to keep that somewhere for him or he will be lost without it ;)

    1. Haha, I do remember that! He used to do that when he slept in our bed - if I made too large of movements, he would get all upset and jump off the bed. I'm interested to see if he'll sleep with you when you're here or if he'll still choose his couch!
